DR. SHIRLEY ANN JACKSON: THE FIRST OF MANY

Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson is a theoretical physicist and a famous black inventor. She has many advances in science to her credit. She was born in in 1957.

She got her doctoral and bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr.#Shirley Ann Jackson is the first African woman to get a PhD not only from MIT, but in all of the United States. Her theoretical physics experiments have led to countless breakthroughs in the growth of telecommunications like caller ID, portable fax, call waiting, to mention a few.

In 1999, Dr. S.A. Jackson became the first woman and first African President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She has received a large number of prestigious fellowships, including the #Ford Foundation Advanced Study Fellowship. The good doctor is a member of numerous prestigious societies. Former head of United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
