YITYISH TITI AYNAW

In February 2013, history was made in Israel. A twenty-one year old beauty of African descent was crowned Miss Israel 2013. The beauty is Yityish Titi Aynaw, an Ethiopian Jew who was born in 1991. This lady is a model and Television personality and her family is from Beta Israel.

Ms Aynaw first grew up with her parents in Chahawit, Ethiopia. Then later as an orphan with her grandparents in Israel. Standing at five feet eleven inches tall, her friend enrolled her for the Miss Israel beauty pageant in 2013. It was her first time in anything of this nature but she cut on quickly and won the title.

When Yityish Titi Aynaw won the title of Miss Israel, she influenced the return of many Ethiopian-Jews to Israel. Her victory gave hope to the Jews of African descent and opened new perspectives in Israel. To cement this newness, President Barack Obama invited her to a gala when he visited Israel. He went on to refer to her as a role model to her generation.

As if that was not enough, Yityish Titi Aynaw was named as the 39th Most Influential Jew of 2013 by The Jerusalem Post. Though she did not get placed at Miss Universe 2013, she influenced many positive changes during her reign as Miss Israel 2013.

As far as she is concerned, making an effort to change racism and tokenism is better than complaining about it. The former lieutenant is also dreaming of going into fashion too.
